New Year, Same Me

Happy New Year! Many do not know this, but I spent the last 100 days of 2017 focused on wellness. For those months  (yes, months) I meditated, exercised and practiced intuitive eating daily. In the process, I became stronger and had more energy. I even lost weight.

Despite bad weather, oversleeping and work–I did something everyday; a spin  class, a session on the elliptical or  (worst case) an at home workout from a magazine. I put myself first and it made a huge difference.

As my 100 days came to a close, my winter travel began. I headed to the island of Grenada. I practiced yoga, swam, walked the beach and laid in the sun. It was the perfect way to end the year. So, when the new year came I had no reason to seek a new me.

In 2018, I’ll continue to strengthen the same me. I made no resolutions but set personal, professional and financial goals. I look forward to what is come this year. I’m attending conferences, expos, writing articles and posting right here.

What’s your plan for 2018? Tell me.

May Recap

The month of May has been a blur due to the flurry of events that I attended. First up, the Junior Committee event for the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. I served on the event committee and it was a fun night at the Dream Hotel – Midtown with food, drinks, games and a silent auction.

Thanks to a friend, I attended a black tie event at Pier 60 for the New York Urban League. A part of the greater National Urban League, the organization has an impact on communitues of color ranging from educational programming to job readiness.

Last, I attended a fundraiser for my son’s school. I served on the committee for this special year, our long-time head of school is retiring. The event took place at the American  Museum of Natural History. We had dinner under the whale and danced next to the dioramas.

Such fun and all for a great cause!

Final Roadtrip of 2016

It has been a while since my last post, but I couldn’t let 2016 go without a final note. The year was busy and exciting for me with life events (15th anniversary) and a career shift (I’m a teacher–again!). Throughout it all, I continue to write about my love of family travel and I hope you’ve come across my recent articles and posts.

This year, I traveled to some old and new favorite destinations.  In the coming year I look forward to continuing my travels, writing more and sharing it all with you.  Before the new year, I wanted to share one more roadtrip from 2016.

For Christmas, my husband and I decided to give our son the gift of experiences. So, with mild weather, limited French and a longing to escape– we drove to Montréal. Midway, we stopped in Saratoga Springs for lunch then continued on to the Canadian border.  Once cleared, we headed to our hotel in Old Montreal.

Our few days in this beautiful city were fully booked. We took a bus tour, visited the Olympic Park, the Biodome, Planetarium and Science Center. We had many delicious meals and treats in between.  It was so enjoyable to experience French culture just hours away from home. More to come in 2017…

Back to School, Back to Life

The air is crisp, jackets are out and fall is here. The past few weeks, I’ve been getting my son settled into the new school year and the responsibilities that come with it.  I too had to find my rhythm as I balance life and work.

With school back in session, we try to make the most of the weekends by enjoying local parks and museums like the American Museum of Natural History. This is a great way to support what my son’s learning at school. It’s also makes for fun family time.

Family Outing to the Intrepid

Lately, I have been glued to my computer (working on a book proposal–fingers crossed).  Every so often, I manage to escape the glaring screen. This past weekend (with its gorgeous weather) was the perfect excuse to close the laptop. I went with my family to the Intrepid Museum and it did not disappoint. Airplanes, a space shuttle and interactivity made it a great day!

Spring Staycation

The past couple of weeks have been  spent at home on staycation with my family. Following the trip to Philadelphia, my son’s spring break began.  I had several deadlines and my husband was quite busy with work. So, staying in New York made the most sense. We visited museums like the MoMA, attended Easter service at Riverside Church and enjoyed gospel brunch in Harlem. A low key, but enjoyable break.

Weekend in Philly

I had a fully booked weekend. The Travel and Adventure Show took place in Philadelphia at the Convention Center and I decided to take the quick train ride down from NYC.

An overnight trip, I easily attended the expo and had time to explore Philadelphia. CityPASS in hand–I saw the skyline, visited a museum, the zoo and took a bus tour.  Here’s a few photos!
